Block Party on the Marietta Square

Block Party at Hemingway's on the Square

Mike and I joined Ben and Andrea when they went to watch Block Party play at Hemingways' on the Square in Marietta. We had so much fun, the band is great and they really involve the crowd with all of the songs. I ended up on stage singing Brown Eyed Girl. I had a blast but I felt badly for the folks who paid a cover charge and had to listen to me sing for a bit. Christy joined us later and that just made the night even better. I probably had too good of a time and paid for it the next morning, but lucky for me, Bailey was there to play doctor and make me feel better.

Surprise Trip to Cancun!

Surprise Visit to Cancun!
Mike surprised me with a trip to Cancun for my birthday and our anniversary (and probably Christmas, Valentine's Day and Labor Day too...ha). It was absolutely beautiful. And a perfect time of year to go since we didn't have any hurricane weather to deal with and it was pretty deserted. We stayed at the Paradisus Resort which was GORGEOUS. Now that I have experienced an "All Inclusive" Resort I don't think I can ever go back to anything else. I will try to add video later because these pics just do NOT do the place justice. We met some really fun folks to hang with at the pool but we also managed to drag ourselves out of our cabana to experience the local culture. Our favorite place was Selvatica where we experienced 12 ziplines, swam in a cenote and enjoyed a fajita lunch. They actually flipped both me and Mike upside down as we flew over the jungle at one point. I didn't even throw up...so proud of myself. On another day we visited the water park, Xel-Ha, where we snorkeled the lagoon, rode bikes (narrowly missing trees growing in the middle of the path and families of badgers), and jumped off a 20 foot cliff called Cliff of Courage. Check it out here. On the same day we visited the Tulum Ruins. They had a beautiful public beach and our tour guide did a great job of sharing the history of the site. We almost got left by the tour bus though so it taught us to be a little early at any meeting spots just in case. Before we left, we snorkeled the world's second largest coral reef right in view of our resort. I hate I didn't have an underwater camera so that you could see just how beautiful it was. Guess I'll know what to take the second time back!

Rick's Concert in Knoxville

Rick's Concert in Knoxville

Mike surprised me with a weekend getaway to Knoxville to catch Rick Springfield's concert. I had no clue what he had cooked up, he knows I just love surprises. Rick put on a great show. Especially when he took off his shirt to get comfortable at the end. The man is 60! Sorry, I'm just not buying it.
The next day we spent some time in the Smokey Mountains. It is just beautiful there, the leaves are just starting to change. Even the traffic with the carshow in Pigeon Forge and the motorcycle festival in Cherokee didn't stop us from having fun. Atlanta has trained us to be patient.
We then wrapped up the weekend at our friend's beautiful cabin in Ellijay (Thanks, Tammy...you are the best!) We highly recommend Wolfcreek BBQ if you happen to go downtown. It was delicious!

Art in the Park

Art in the Park

Bailey and I went to Art in the Park at the Marietta Square. She was able to paint so that made her day.

Bailey Goes to Her First Play

Bailey Goes to the Play

We went to the Blackwell Theater for Bailey's first play and saw Cinderella. The cast was mostly young kids so I was glad to be part of their audience. Bailey's favorite part was when Cinderella got married. We all got to stand and participate like a real wedding. Since then she has been inspired to act it out again here at home. Over and over and over....ha! And somehow Mike got volunteered to help sing Happy Birthday to a little girl in the audience. He was assigned the role of a pig. And I am proud to say he nailed it!
