Guess you could say I have been a little busy since August 4th, 2006. After a series of tests that I initially thought was to just resolve a little acid reflux, I was diagnosed with a dissection and aneurism of the aorta. Which meant emergency open heart surgery to replace the root and parts of the aorta using a graft. My mom had a similar surgery last year, but she had to have her valve replaced. So far, my valve is looking okay. Along with my heart condition, I also have dislocation of both lenses. These are both symptoms of
Marfan's Syndrome. Although I don't have all of the characteristics, I have 2 biggies. My doctor's are still working on a diagnosis since there really isn't a test I can take to prove it one way or the other. My only hope right now is that Bailey is healthy since this is hereditary.
I couldn't say enough about the special care from my Cardiologist,
Dr. Randall Grimes and my Cardiac Surgeon,
Dr. Edward Chin. I was so fortunate to have THE BEST OF THE BEST when it came to my healthcare. And my nurses on the 4th floor Cardiac Unit couldn't have treated me any better.
Thank goodness, most of this has been a blur. But I do remember being on a ventilator (being suctioned to clear my airway was NOT fun) and receiving a chest tube when my lung collapsed. I am glad to say that my scar isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Although my lingerie modeling days are probably over..oh well.
Each day I continue to improve. Little things like taking a shower, walking up the stairs, and just getting on and off the couch without any help have really helped me feel like I have come a long way already. The worst part of recovery is not being able to hold Bailey. She cries for me to pick her up and just doesn't understand why we can't snuggle anymore. That is what breaks my heart because there is nothing I need more right now than some good ole Bailey loving. I have to go 4-6 weeks without picking up anything over 10 pounds. She is a whopping 20.
I have an appointment with Dr. Grimes on Thursday, so I will have more details then.
