Back Home

Last Day at Destin and the Return Home

Now that we are back home, I am already having beach withdrawals. Oh well, Mike and I will have plenty of time at the beach when we strike it rich and build our second home down there. On the way back we stopped in Albany to celebrate Mr. McBride's 59th birthday.
And wouldn't you know it, when we get home we have a surprise waiting on us. Looks like a family of pink flamingos shacked up in our yard while we were gone. Trust me, it could have been worse...it has been worse. We live next to several practical jokesters and none of them are fessing up....yet.....

Destin 2007 - Day 6

Destin 2007 - Day 6
We can't believe how quickly our time down here has flown. Oh well, we sure have enjoyed it. This morning we actually had a little bit of smoke from the wildfires in South Georgia. We could use a good rain storm to help out with that. Normally it rains on and off while we are down. We didn't have a drop of rain this time. In the morning we spent time walking on the beach looking for seashells. Then we spent the rest of the day at the pool. Poor Mike looks like a prune. Bailey didn't give him much of a break. Some of the pictures are from the play area at the local stores. Bailey and I played while Mike didn't some shopping. What sounds wrong with that scenario? Then we wrapped up the night by going to Sonic. Mike treated us to ice cream. Bailey got a kick out of us talking to the box and she spent awhile trying to place her own order. Thank goodness she couldn't reach the button. But it was cute to watch her pretend to order her own food.

Destin 2007 - Day 5

Destin 2007 - Day Five
Today will be known as Pool Day. We had red flag weather on the beach and it was pretty windy so we didn't chance it. It turned out for the best because Bailey and Mike were able to play in the pool. And Bailey even used her swimmies and swam like a big girl. She had a blast, those little legs were just a going under the water. She especially liked it when Mike would pretend to be an alligator and tickle her toes under the water.

Destin 2007 - Day 4

Destin 2007 - Day 4
We actually decided to stick to just the beach today. Although Bailey and I are having a blast, I can't help but feel sorry for Mike every time he has to load up everything and carry it down to the beach for us. The McBride gals don't travel light and he is getting a work out, that is for sure. You can't go to Destin without snacking on a Whataburger and Bailey had her first. She even got to enjoy her meal in a big girl booster seat. She thought she was something special as she sipped on her vanilla milkshake. Oh yeah, here is a warning for the Grandparents...Don't be alarmed when you see the goose egg above her right eye. Bailey had miles and miles of sugar white sand to fall in and she choose to dive head first into the arm of our beach chair. OUCH!!!!

Watch Bailey and Mike burn off those milkshake calories....

Destin 2007 - Day 3

Destin 2007 - Day 3
The adventures of the beach bunny continues. Today we got a chance to see dolphins. We saw several schools swim by. This is the first time I have seen them so close. I don't even want to know what else is swimming within reach that I can't see. I must say that the water is absolutely beautiful down here. Not a shred of seaweed in sight. But the weather has been a little cool. The high today was only 79. That might explain why Bailey wasn't too crazy about the pool today. It was a little chilly. Even I didn't want to brave that water. Poor Mikey had to swim by himself. Oh, I am including the video below to show you what is going on when we aren't basking in the sun. Bailey has really gotten into this "Ring Around the Rosie" thing. I have turned in circles until I am seeing 3 Bailey's. I got smart and recruited her doll. She makes an excellent stand in for mommy!

Destin 2007 Day 2

Destin 2007 Day 2
We had so much fun today. Just as Mike and I suspected, once Bailey got a chance to see the ocean in the daylight, she loved it. She played all day in the water with Mike or in the sand with her toys. I got a chance to kick back and read a book and do nothing. It was great! We had so much fun that we got a little off schedule. Like no nap.....sorry, Marcia, I'm sure you will get her back on schedule next week. HaHa! We had only one mishap. Lost one of her shoes, but Mike actually went back and patrolled the beach until he found it. Which was good, because Bailey really likes these sandals and was walking around with only one!
Maybe tomorrow we will make it to the pool too. The weather was just so awesome, we couldn't tear ourselves away from the shore today.

Destin 2007 Day 1

Destin 2007 - Click the album above

After 8 hours, we finally made it to the beach. Yes....8 hours. It was only supposed to take 6 1/2 but that is for folks who can drive by a rest stop, Wal-Mart, or a "clean looking" gas station and keep going. Neither Mike or myself like to travel, so we stop more often than most folks. It was close to dark by the time we got Bailey down to the actual beach. But we wanted to see her reaction so bad, we couldn't wait. First she had to adjust to that pretty, cool, white sand between her toes. Then she had to take in the beautiful blue ocean in front of her. Not only was it big, it was loud. Mike tried to coax her into the smaller waves just to get her feet wet and she wasn't a big fan of that idea. Mike and I are counting on a better reaction tomorrow when she has a chance to adjust to this new and strange place.

Mother's Day Gift

I got a chance to hang my Mother's Day gift from Bailey in my office today. I must say I was very impressed (even though she did have a little help from her sitter, Ms. Marcia).

Kory & Wendy's Wedding / Mother's Day 2007

Kory & Wendy's Wedding / Mother's Day 2007
This weekend my brother, Kory, and Wendy got married. I just love Wendy and I am so happy they are together. I was very proud of Bailey. She actually had a successful first run at being a flower girl. Except she was pretty stingy with the petals and wouldn't throw them. But since she actually walked down the aisle without screaming for me, I'll call it a success!
I really enjoyed my Mother's Day as well. The best part was spending it with family. Mike treated all of us to lunch at Cracker Barrel to celebrate the big day.
